Old hobbies, new finds.

I grew up in a crafty household. My mom sewed all of our curtains, she made my sister and I beautiful matching dresses for each holiday, she knit, and did needlepoint – and she taught me as well. My dad was handy too – he was always making shelves, fixing the house, and coming up with crazy contraptions to make things work. The words frugal and green don’t even begin to describe the way I grew up.

So when I saw a Husqvarna sewing machine at a ridiculously low price on Craigslist, I jumped on it. I got a Huskystar 215 – it’s a nice basic machine that I hope will last me a long time. My first project is going to be something I saw over at The Chic Life – a reversible cloth grocery tote (that will double as a huge purse). And possibly will be the object of a future giveaway, if all goes well.

Several of you have asked about buying the earrings if you don’t win – absolutely! I set up an Etsy shop HERE where you can browse my creations (I only have 1 listing up so far).

Speaking of which, don’t forget to enter my earring giveaway. I extended the deadline to Tuesday night rather than Sunday night.

And now, a Peanut Butter review – PB&Co! I bought Mighty Maple and Dark Chocolate Dreams the other day.

Mighty Maple – (per 2 tablespoon serving: 180 calories, 14 grams fat, 12 grams carbohydrates, 1 gram fiber, 6 grams protein. Ingredients: peanuts, evaporated cane juice, maple syrup, natural maple flavor, palm fruit oil, salt.) I loved this flavor. I am not normally a sweet peanut butter person, but this was really delicious. The peanut butter is so smooth and creamy, and the maple flavor is very apparent – in a good way. I’ll be buying it again. Favorite way to eat Mighty Maple – on a spoon with oatbran & plain.

Dark Chocolate Dreams – (per 2 tablespoon serving: 170 calories, 13 grams fat, 12 grams carbohydrates, 2 grams fiber, 6 grams protein. Ingredients: peanuts, evaporated cane juice, cocoa, cocoa butter, organic palm oil, vanilla, lecithin, salt.) This flavor was just okay. I would much rather have chocolate smeared with peanut butter than chocolate flavored peanut butter. The texture was great, as with Mighty Maple, but the flavor was dull. Favorite way to eat Dark Chocolate Dreams – on a whole wheat wrap & plain.

Bobby preferred DCD, but he likes them both. His favorite way to eat them – I’ve been making him PB&PB sandwiches with both flavors.

To-do list (not complete):

  • Jo-Ann Fabrics – check out sales & buy fabric/thread for projects
  • Design logo for side project
  • Prep for yoga teacher training tomorrow (watch video and pack food)
  • Watchmen tonight @ 6 with Bobby and people from his work
  • Laundry (again? didn’t I just do this…)
  • Cruise stuff
  • Vacuum apartment

Happy Weekend! Any plans?

  7. That would be so incredibly sweet of you to send me some PB2, I can’t find it! I don’t even use the fake PB’s as a replacement…I’m just curious to how they taste. And after seeing all these recipes with the PB2, it would be awesome to use it!

E-mail me and I’ll send you my address!

  10. Wow. I haven’t seen a sewing machine in so long. Brings back good memories of when my grandmother used to sew things for me. Very cool! 🙂

  11. ah, i need to dig up my sewing machine when i go home for spring break. i keep starting all these projects and then not finishing them…!

also, i agree the the dark chocolate pb is just “meh.” somehow it doesn’t have chocolate flavor OR pb flavor! mighty maple rocks, though, and so does white chocolate wonderful.

did you like watchmen? i’m on the fence about seeing it since i’m a hardcore fan of the graphic novel, and i think i’d be really picky :/

  12. Thanks for reviewing PB & Co! I’ve never had any of their products but I really want to try some of that.
