Vitalicious Review

The other week Vitalicious sent me a huge sampler pack of their products to try and review.

22 vitatops 300x225 Vitalicious Review

Vitalicious makes muffins, muffin tops, and brownies – all at 100 calories or less.  I have finally tried ALL of the flavors:

VitaTops:

  • 2 Banana Nut
  • 2 Velvety Chocolate
  • 2 Deep Chocolate
  • 2 Golden Corn
  • 2 BlueBran
  • 2 CranBran
  • 2 MultiBran
  • 2 AppleBerryBran
  • 2 Double Chocolate Dream
  • 2 Fudgy Peanut Butter Chip

VitaBrownies:

  • 4 Deep & Velvety Chocolate

Sample ingredients – they are all pretty much the same (this is for BlueBran): Water, whole wheat flour, organic evaporated cane juice, egg whites, whole wheat flakes, blueberries, molasses powder, soy bran, oat fiber, wheat protein isolate, oat bran, inulin, leavening, wheat gluten, grapejuice, brown rice syrup, acacia gum, natural flavor, sea salt, cinnamon, xanthan gum, lecithin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, folic acid, iron, biotin, zinc. CONTAINS EGG, SOY, WHEAT.

Sample nutritionals (again for BlueBran, per 1 VitaTop serving): 100 calories, 1 gram fat, 20 grams carbohydrates, 5 grams fiber, 9 grams sugar, 4 grams protein.

My favorites by far are the VitaBrownies.

You can warm them up in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, or you can eat them still frozen.  I actually like to nibble them slowly while they are still frozen, but I’ve had them heated as well… rich, chocolatey perfection.

I also like to have the Chocolate type of VitaTops frozen, but I prefer to heat up the Bran type.  My favorite of the Brans was CranBran:

cranbran vitatop Vitalicious Review

These have big chunks of cranberries mixed into a chewy and flavorful bran dough.  We all know how much I like bran – oat bran, wheat bran, I love them all!

Overall I really enjoyed the Vitalicious products.  I only have 2 complaints: 1) they aren’t very filling (so if you have them as a snack it probably won’t tide you over until dinner), and 2) they are expensive!  They run at about $1.50 per muffin, which is more than what I’d like to pay.  They’re still cheaper than what you’d find at a coffee shop, so that’s a plus.

Bobby says: “It’s probably bad that they are so delicious and healthy, because then you feel okay eating a lot of them.  But maybe that’s okay… because they are healthy.”

I got mad at him (jokingly) the other night because he ate the last of the Chocolate VitaTops.  When a 22 year old guy says they’re good, you know they must be.

What’s your favorite kind of VitaTop/Muffin/Brownie?  Or, if you haven’t tried them – which flavor do you want to try?  Do you eat them plain or with toppings like peanut butter?

Q for you because I’ve noticed this when I eat Vita products: does your mouth taste funny afterward? When I eat the corn Vitas I get the weirdest aftertaste! That brownie looks like a Little Debbie brownie :)

He’s only 22?! Why did I think your pookie was like 30? I have no reason for thinking this!
First of all. What a gorgeous gift from the Vitapeople! I love it!
Second – there was a time when I ate a deep chocolate vitamuffin every night with calorie free chocolate sauce and butter spray! I think if I were to eat one now, I’d smear it with PB :)

I’ve only tried the deep chocolate and it was pretty good. I tried it plain and also toasted in the toaster oven.

Wow! What a great variety of products to try! I have tried only a few of their products, mostly because I hate paying for shipping!

I also like the CranBran, and the Golden Corn is yummy, too. My favorite sweet variety is the Fudgey PB Chip.

I’ve never had a vitamuffin!!! I was always of the thought that I could make my own … for much cheaper. But, they do sound tasty and always tempt me at the supermarket. I am sure I will cave one of these days.

i have had the blueberry bran and the multibran, but never the cranbran. i agree with your diagnosis of the two problems with the fillingness (is that a word?) and cost…which means that these are an indulgence of sorts for me. next time around, i want to try the vitabrownies because i have a huge weakness for chocolate :)
