Maggie Gets Her Groove Back

Her yoga groove that is!

biggest-loser-yoga

Yesterday I did Bob Harper’s Biggest Loser Yoga from OnDemand Exercise TV.  It was only about 20-25 minutes, and very simple, but it was just what I needed.  I did it after I did the shred (level 1), so since I was already sweaty my heart rate stayed up.  It was fun.  Bob started with a warmup (lots of arm movement), then moved into the workout (just a few vinyasa with brief holds), and then the cooldown (stretching, savasana).  He talked throughout savasana, trying to convince you to just lay there and let your thoughts go.  For someone new to yoga, this would be helpful… for me, it was a little annoying.  But I probably did stay in savasana for longer that I normally would, just because he kept telling me to stay there!

Aside from the Biggest Loser Yoga, I’ve been doing yoga stretching after my cardio workouts.  I usually do a down dog, a few Sun A’s, and frog pose on each side.  I have actually been doing this since before I posted about my apparent loss of yoga love, but I wasn’t counting it as yoga… but you know what, it is!

I’ve also been shopping.  I found these awesome long & lean tank tops at Target – I have so much trouble finding tank tops that are long enough, so if you’re tall (or even if you’re not) you should check them out.  I think they’re $7.99.  I got this purple one and it’s very comfy.  They’re junior sizes, so they run small.

Speaking of cool buys, our cousins brought us back some green tea from Japan!  Miwa visited her family a few weeks ago so when we saw them last Sunday she gave us this…

I put the loose leaf tea into the tea bag, then I put it in this pitcher (from the Korean market, Han Kook) and pour hot water over it.  Sometimes I add a lemon, and sometimes I don’t.  I usually just let it sit out for a while to steep and then I drink from the pitcher all day long.

Green tea has so many benefits – it has antioxidants, it can prevent cancer, it can raise metabolism, it can reduce the risk of heart disease, and it can even prevent tooth decay!  Very cool.

What is your favorite kind of tea to drink?  I like green tea a lot, but I also like flavored teas.  Lupicia has flavors like lychee, sugar cookie, chocolate, and many more.

(P.S.  Don’t forget about the Blogger Secret Ingredient – kabocha!)

  1. We had that same pitcher at work! 🙂

I like sweet iced tea the best – I’m a purist. But for flavored hot teas I like fruity ones like citrus or raspberry. I think it blends nicely and has a warm homey feel.

  2. I am going to check out that new video ASAP! I have never heard of it but I loved his cardio one so I’m sure I’ll love this one.

I love those long and lean tanks! I have a couple and they are perfect by themselves or under other shirts. I actually want to get some more now! I don’t think I’ve seen the purple.

I drink a lot of green tea. I like flavored like blueberry, pomegranate, or goji berry. When I go out to eat I always order a plain iced tea…I hate it sweetened.

  3. Trader Joe’s has this Cranberry Green tea, which is 3.99 for 15 packets. 🙁 but it is the most Aromatic tea I have ever had

it has whole leaf tea, flowers (hibiscus), fruit and spices.

it’s so wonderful, i could bathe in it.

it’s more of an event than just a beverage

and i am a HUGE fan of long shirts… I live in them, I find mine at Fashion 5…not the best quality but they’re cheap… my long stretch shirt addiction began with pregnancy and it just continued. they’re comfy

  4. I love tea a lot, any kind actually. I have a big selection of tea in my pantry: camomille, peppermint, mate, english tea, green tea, chai, fruit tea, etc!!! I just love trying new flavors! 😀

  5. yay for getting your yoga groove back! that’s awesome.

i’ve been drinking a lot of white tea lately. i like really spicy teas too, but i’m usually not a fan of fruity ones.

i may have to check out those tanks! i’m always looking for good long ones.

  6. i love the green tea!

lately i’ve been enjoying some delicious steamed kabocha after being chilled overnight in the fridge. yum!

  7. I couldn’t live without my green tea! Although I’ve never had the chance to try authentic Japanese green tea… I’m so jealous 😉 enjoy!

  8. I have that yoga DVD! I love how the workout is customizable — In addition to the warmup, cool down, and the workout you did, there is also an abs section and a weights section so you can do as much (all 55 minutes) or as little as you want 🙂

  9. I love all those Target tank tops!

The Yoga DVD sounds really nice- especially compared with the Shred. I’m still pretty new to yoga so a short, talk-me-through-everything DVD might work!

  10. ah, so that’s what you meant by recovering yoga! cool, I’d love to try it once I get healthier!
I love green tea…plain, or flavored, but with no sweeteners! I think sweet green tea is NASTY!

  11. Yay, back before my injury I was looking for Bob’s Yoga on On Demand each day and it hadn’t appeared yet. I can’t wait to try it, it sounds pretty doable and that I wouldn’t be killing my still healing self.

Thanks for your comment today, too. I knew you’d understand.

I am looking EVERYWHERE for kambocha. I may even have to drive a bit to go to an Asian market. Now I’m on a quest!

  12. I tried the on demand version of Bob’s yoga video and it just didn’t do it for me. I think he talked a little bit too much for my preferences, because there was nothing wrong with the poses themselves.

  13. target rocks for long shirts. i am a tall and LONG torso girl so if i find a good one i buy two or three, lol!

i just finished my iced tea pitcher today. i brew a few times a week when it gets hot, usually various yogi teas. i like a few drops of this: http://steviasmart.com/stclfl.html to add a bit of sweet or flavor to my glass. lemon drop in green tea…classic!

  14. I’ve been meaning to check out that DVD. I have 30 Day Shred and love it!

Have you checked Old Navy for longer tank tops? I just bought some recently from there. I like the longer ones too.

  15. I didn’t know Bob had a DVD! I love him!! I’m an echo but Old Navy has long tanks – I have an extremely long torso and they never fail me 🙂

  16. Maggie,
Glad you’re groovin to some yoga again! I really want to go to Target and buy some of those tanks as well as the frozen veggies you posted about recently.

I’ve tried so many different teas, and I always go back to Celestial Seasonings Blueberry. THE BEST!

  17. Glad you are enjoying yoga again!

I really love tea … white and green are great, but I love trialing different herbal teas … mint blends, ginger, lemongrass, and cinnamon are always flavors that win me over.

  18. The yoga DVD sounds really interesting. I’ll have to check it out.
My favorite tea is probably chamomile. I only drink herbal tea. I like pretty much anything without anise/licorice root or peppermint in it.
