I dropped my mom off at the SFO airport this morning. I had such a wonderful week and I was really sad to see her go. We made the most of our time together though! And she left me with presents. My mom is a quilter, so my house is full of her beautiful quilts. She brought me two small ones this time. She put one on the table…
Close up.
And I laid the other one on the couch. It matches perfectly.
She also left me these awesome shoes. They weren’t supposed to be for me, but when I asked if I could borrow them she said they looked better on me and I could keep them. She hadn’t even worn them yet. Thanks, Mom! I’ve been wearing them every day. With some green oats 🙂
Yesterday we had our last day of double green oat bran. This time the two bowls were exactly the same – oat bran, peanut butter, salt&vanilla, and tons of spinach. She asked for the same amount of green as me (but didn’t quite finish her bowl – these guys are filling). My mom’s favorite bowl was the bowl from her first day here (sweet) – oat bran, peanut butter, banana, salt & vanilla, and honey drizzled on top with not too much spinach – just enough to be green.
I was feeling glum when I got back from the airport, but Miss Cranky (Bella) sent me a present that I found in my mailbox. It’s a package of chocolate bars from Trader Joe’s. The perfect pick me up. Thanks, Bella!
I’m off to do some morning yoga and make up a nice comforting bowl of spinach-y oat bran. Sounds like a good start to me. Happy Tuesday!
Today’s question is: what’s the sweetest present you’ve ever gotten? I love small thoughtful gifts, like flower at the end of a hard day, or a hand-crafted quilt. Meaningful presents are definitely the best for me.
P.S. Sorry for the lack of commenting recently. I’ve been reading, but trying to spend time with Mom… I’ll be back to normal now though.
so nice to see you get to enjoy a visit from Mom! you guys sure packed a lot into a week!
Did she handmake your quilts? they are beautiful!
I am not sure of the sweetest gift i’ve ever gotten..I am normally the gift-er not the gift-ee.
JD and KY are my sweetest gifts… nothing else really matters that much!
my favorite gift I ever MADE for someone was a hand knitted bunny for my niece and I made her a story to go with it… that was most fun gift I ever gave!
Happy Tuesday (although my brain thinks it Monday)
Hey! I just found your blog through a Cup of Joanna, just thought that I would stop by and comment, hope you don`t mind! Oh! And reading about the kabocha made me crave some so now I am going to go bake ours in the oven:]
Those quilts are gorgeeeous! I’m curious to try the spinach oat bran too…it looks daunting but I know it would taste great. I tried kabocha yesterday and LOVED it – thanks for the inspiration!
I’m so happy that you can share your lifestyle with your mom 🙂 My mom and I are definitely on the same wavelength now it terms of stuff like diet and the environment and I love having that as part of our relationship.
Hm, gotta say I’ve been blessed present-wise my whole life! Speaking of moms, this is mine: My mom brought me back a beautiful paua shell necklace from New Zealand on a trip she couldn’t take me on. It meant a lot to me because of the circumstances of not being able to go. I wore it all the time for a couple years, then broke it for a stupid reason in college and it broke my heart. On the first Christmas I spent with my partner’s family, his mom ended up coincidentally giving me a paua necklace as well. I’ve associated them with a Mother’s love since then 🙂
I love the quilt – beautiful – along with the shoes!
Those quilts are beautiful! Spinach oat bran=loveee!
<3 jess
The quilts are beautiful. They would make lovely wall hangings.
and about the shoes… Moms are like that.
The quilts are beautiful and those shoes are sooo cute (looks comfy too), your mom is very sweet.
I love thoughtful gifts too. Random cards from people just because they care, handmade necklaces, etc. It’s always nice to know that people care 🙂
Beautiful quilts!
What a nice visit with your mom, love the quilts she’s so talented! I also love the shoes!
awww what nice presents from your mom!
What gorgeous quilts!
Glad you got the chocolates in one piece! 😀
Your mom’s quilts are BEAUTIFUL!
I am an indiscriminate gift receiver! hehe! I am thankful for thoughtfulness in any form! 🙂 Have a great one!
Gorgeous quilts! and green oats!
The most thoughtful gift I’ve ever gotten was an original watercolor that I received from a relative for a high school graduation gift. She painted a gorgeous landscape from a place in New Zealand, where we had traveled together.
PS check out my giveaway!
Those quilts are lovely!
outrageously beautiful quilts and shoes! Gotta love mothers. They’re the sweetest beings on earth!
The sweetest gift I received was a giant pooh bear from my friend when I was hospitalized…My friend is a Pooh fanatic, and she gave me her BEST and BIGGEST Pooh out of her collection, and even bought a little baby’s Pooh shirt to dress the Pooh!
I love the small thoughtful presents as well – when you realize someone has been listening to you. You know, when you just kind of mention something in passing, and that person remembers it and buys it for you, maybe right then or even months later. Those are the best gifts!
You’re mom has cool taste…in both shoes and oats. 🙂
Your mom seems wonderful. I’m so glad that you had a wonderful visit! It’s hard not to live by your mom – mines only about an hour (sometimes less) via car away, but it still seems so far and I love the chance to spend time together. Enjoy the chocolate! 🙂
Aww, your mom seems wonderful. I’m so glad that you had a wonderful visit! It’s hard not to live by your mom – mines only about an hour (sometimes less) via car away, but it still seems so far and I love the chance to spend time together. Enjoy the chocolate! 🙂
Oh my…those are beautiful. I hate it when my parents leave after a visit. I always end up crying at the airport and depressed for a few days afterward.
One present that I was really touched by was the gift of a doll by my granny. It belonged to her sister around 1900. It’s a gorgeous antique doll. All the granddaughters wanted it, but she chose to give it to me.
wicked awesome shoes!! and lovely quilts 🙂
little presents are the nicest, when they are least expected! It doesn’t have to be big, just thoughtful!
I’m going to miss the double oatbran photos…your mom seems like a cool lady!
Maggie,
Hello doll! I saw your comment on La Belle Vegan’s post today and I just have to say , “Oh do Do DO try Pbu!” It’s so delish I couldn’t keep it to myself… although I did very briefly consider patenting the stuff and selling off jars on Ebay. But then I got stuck trying to figure out how I would keep it cool if it had to shipped anywhere farther than an hour away from my little dwelling and decided to post the recipe instead. ;P
The sweetest present I ever got was a three page letter from my little sister explaining why she loved our relationship… brought tears to my eyes.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
With Love,
Emily
P.S.- Do you mind if I “follow” you and add you to my blogroll?
oh wow those quilts and shoes, how cool! im so glad you had a great week with your mom! my mom lives right down the street…i am so blessed in this and after reading about your mom time, im renewed to not take mine for granted, being so close and all.
hmm the sweetest present ever… anything from my nephew and godson mason. any picture he draws me or flower he picks melts my heart.
when my husband and i were dating, he wrote me a fairy tale with me starring as the princess. along with the story, he presented crystal figurines of a castle and a unicorn. it was probably the most thought out and meaningful gift ive ever gotten.
I honestly think quilts are some of the most special gifts a person can get. There is so much labor involved, and I just treasure each quilt I’ve ever received, even the Dora one on Gracie’s bed right now.
I’m so glad you had such a great time with your mom and made a green oats convert!
glad to know you had such great time with your mom and she leave you with some cute presents! 🙂
sweetest present? unexpected, meaningful, thoughtful ones are the best!
I love special little gifts from mom like that 🙂 I always end up with some mom hand-me-downs when we spend time together. On my last trip home I had a really hard time leaving, and at the last iminute at the airport she gave me her fluffy comfy sweater she was wearing so I had it on the plane. That was special to me 🙂
the quilts are beautiful and I love the shoes!
the sweetest present was a box of my favorite candy bars my now husband sent me in college – we were long distance for a year while we were engaged.
Those shoes are so cute! I hope they’re comfy!
