Brunches and Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! What did you do?

Bobby and I went out for a Valentine’s day brunch because we weren’t sure what we were doing tonight (and because we love brunch). We still don’t know what we’re doing tonight… takeout pizza perhaps?

I was debating and debating what to get. I kind of wanted French toast or I kind of wanted eggs, but I had eggs on Friday, and a scramble yesterday (Saturday), and I’ll probably have eggs again tomorrow (Monday).

So I ended up getting something I haven’t had in ages – fruit and cottage cheese! I made sure the cottage cheese was the full fat kind, not the diet one. This plate was only $8.95 and it was quite large (I did finish it). I also ate Bobby’s salad that came with his rice and quiche.

I’ve been experimenting a little bit with dairy (maybe I’m not as intolerant to it as I thought) and it’s been working out very well. So I will be eating more yogurt and cottage cheese, and especially cream cheese on my veggies… yum.

I went vegan for brunch yesterday – I met up with Marina and Missy down at Blossom on 9th Avenue (between 22nd and 23rd Streets). Blossom is an organic and vegan cafe. We all decided to get the same exact thing: the Tofu Scramble ($13). I got extra ketchup (click here for my ketchup recipe) for my scramble.

Description from the site: Fresh tofu sautéed with onion, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and soy sausage. Served with toast; salad or fries. Missy and I got salad and Marina went for the fries. The salad was okay – I didn’t really like the dressing much, and I don’t like those silly spring greens that are so popular with the organic crowd. I like romaine and iceberg.

After brunch Marina and I moseyed over to Whole Foods in Chelsea (7th ave and 23rd street) and got some goodies. Then I went home, and later… I bought my wedding dress! I so wish I could post it here, but Bobby refuses to let me show him (I tried), so I’m not going to ruin it for him. UpdateHere are pictures from my wedding day. And more here.

I think we are actually ordering pizza (Domino’s pizza is now really good), so I am going to go watch the Olympics and hang out with my valentine.

Go give someone a hug!

Day of relaxation here-just worked out and cooked.

Brunch-95% of the time I go with eggs benedict but when I am feeling saucy I get an omelet and mix it up. Congrats on the dress!

Haha, I didn’t know bobby is superstitious like that, to not want to see your wedding dress…or is he being romantic? Hee hee! Oh Maggie, you’re gonna make the most gorgeous bride…

Ooh, I’d love to see the wedding dress! How exciting!

Is Domino’s pizza really better now??

As for brunch, I love a good omelet. Throw in some feta or goat cheese and sauteed veggies and I’m happy :) I also love hash browns.

My fave brunch food is actually your choice de jour – Cottage Cheese & Fruit, mmmm:) The fruit is sweet and satisfying while the protein in the cottage cheese gives it real lasting power …and if there’s cinnamon around, I find it helps to jazz it up!

Congrats on finding THE dress, I would love to see it!

Tofu scramble looked so pretty. :)

I hate those fancy greens. Seriously, frisee = bitter dirt in my opinion. Give me romaine any day over that stuff!

Full fat cream cheese…I’m having a love affair with it these days, and my favorite brunch food is whatever the omelet special is.

Please email me picture of wedding dress!!!!

I’m a big advocate of the eggs, too. I figure, if I crave them and eat them every day for breakfast for a week, that’s okay- it likely means I won’t be eating them nearly as much in the following weeks. Might as well just go with what our bodies are asking for!

Glad you can have some dairy – cottage cheese and fruit is a wonderfully healthy combination.
