Fitness Links for the Weekend

I’m winding down my busy week and wanted to share some fitness tips and links that I got recently, courtesy of Fitness Magazine. My mom is coming in to the city for Mothers Day and I’m going to take her out, so I don’t know how much I will be around.

Healthy Recipes: Fitness has a ton of great recipes that I want to try. I always need new ideas for breakfasts, lunches, dinners… I tend to get stuck in a rut. So I will definitely try out their suggestions.

Smoothie Recipes: I have made a few smoothies this week (smoothie). I like mine with coconut milk kefir. Yum.

Actually, here is one of the other smoothies I made this week. It was coconut milk, raspberries, blueberries, honey (lots), and maybe a splash of water to thin it slightly.

Healthy Snack Foods: I don’t like when I’m told to just eat a bar for a snack. I don’t like bars! Fitness tells me I should have hummus with pita and peas, and that sounds much better. If you do want packaged snack foods they have some suggestions though, and a section on vending machine snacks (not my thing).

What’s your favorite snack? Mine is probably a crisp apple.

P.S. I updated Operation Wedding.

I don’t like bars either! They are not very big for their nutrition and always seem too sweet or dry for me.

I’m with you – I love grabbing an apple for a snack, we go through the 3 lb. bags in about a week around here. Also some veggies with hummus or ranch dressing. Or fruit with sunflower seed butter! Although I don’t ALWAYS eat healthy snacks – sometimes I do love chips, but that’s pretty rare since I never buy them or have them around. I was raised to snack on fruits and veggies or a light meal of cheese and deli meat with crackers so usually that’s what I reach for. I think b/c my mom instilled that in my brother and I since we were young we never developed the cravings for chips, candy bars, nachos, etc.

Thanks for the links! I don’t like bars very much either. They’re too energy-dense, and really, since I’m not a serious athlete, I’d much rather turn to REAL food for fuel. They work in a pinch, though… :S

well you sure won’t find any spinach wrapped anything in a vending machine. I try to get healthy snacks but end up eating in my kitchen and blurring snacks into meals. portion control issues…

Love getting the fitness emails but sometimes they send too much! I also think snacking on an apple might be my favorite snack and if I am extra munchy, with a nut butter or nuts or a big smoothie. I pretty much only eat bars if I am in a real hurry, but they are either homemade or larabars with all real food ingredients. have a great time with your mom!

I’ve tried several recipes from Fitness and they always turn out to be hits. You wouldn’t think that their recipes would be super amazing – since they’re more of a Fitness mag, but they’re awesome!

My favorite is this Greek quinoa dish http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/quick-recipes/dinner/7-fat-fighting-dinners/?page=7
