Highlights of the Fear and/or Sanity Weekend, and Guster

Guster Show & The Most Important Person in My Life

Last weekend we were in D.C. for the rally (I already mentioned this; I also posted about one of the signs I saw). We had to go up very early Saturday morning, because Friday night was a Guster concert in the city. This must be at least the 10th time I’ve seen them, and at least the 5th time with Bobby. They played at Beacon theater and the show sold out. (Guster cruise recap here.)

Here we are (10/29/2010):

Here is the same exact picture from 3.5 years ago (!) in the same exact theater seeing Guster together. That weekend was freezing cold and I remember driving either to or from the city in a vicious storm. It was March (?) of 2007 (a little over 1 year into our relationship). Back then I was not eating enough and hardly eating any fats at all and you can tell – I think I look much better now (above). My skin is better now too (my skincare tips here).

We have been together 4 years and 11 months exactly today. For a long time we celebrated our “monthiversary” every single 3rd of the month since our anniversary is December 3rd. I don’t remember when we stopped celebrating the 3rds – now we just give each other lots of hugs and kisses all the time, and we try to have a date night once a week. It doesn’t always fall on the 3rd but that’s okay.

The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear and Washington, D.C.

We ate well. Saturday night we ended up at a random Chinese restaurant – Sichuan Pavillion – that turned out to be one of the best Chinese restaurants we’ve been to. Definitely rivaled some of the fare in Chinatown. (My Joe’s Shanghai review here.) We got three things: shrimp fried rice, sauteed Chinese leeks and sprouts, and beef with broccoli.

I cannot resist beef with broccoli. Nor can I resist fried rice. Good thing Bobby was there to help me or else I might have eaten it all myself. Here is one of many of my plates. I like to steal all of the shrimp from the fried rice. Sorry, Bobby.

Sunday morning we had to walk around for a good 45 minutes before we found a place that was open for breakfast. D.C. is most certainly not New York. Au Bon Pain to the rescue! I got a toasted buttered whole grain bagel (I let them put the butter on because I don’t like knowing how much of it I’m eating) and a coffee with lots of cream and NuNaturals stevia droplets (I carry the dropper in my purse).

I will save the rest of my pictures for tomorrow. Sightseeing in D.C. to come.

Intuitive Eating & My New Snacks

I had a really great weekend; definitely full of intuitive eating. I ate when I was hungry, exercised intuitively (which = walking for me), and snacked on nuts. Nuts are a recent snack of choice for me. Continuing with my ever-increasing love affair with fat, I have stopped snacking on carby things (apples, bread, etc…) and made the switch to nuts (macademia, cashews, and almonds are my favorites).

Reminders & Questions

You have until tonight at 10:30EDT to enter my CSN Gift Certificate Giveaway!

What is your favorite nut? Have you been to D.C.?

Aw you and Bobby are so cute :) I got started on my DC post but need to upload photos before posting. I’m getting a little better at this blog thing!
You are definitely glowing in the latest picture, and I’m sure you were much better at dealing with the cold too. My metabolism at the moment is out of whack and I’m getting hot flashes lol. I was pretty exhausted the whole weekend in DC, maybe it was more walking than I thought? I didn’t even think about doing anything extra and my appetite was HUGE. Even my 2 teenage brothers noticed. Thursday night I polished off 2 full falafel orders and the bread that came with it, we had a breakfast buffet at the hotel and I’d still be starving by lunch time. I also picked up some big bakery cookies for snacks, Friday night I ordered and finished an entire pizza at an italian restaurant then stole my mom’s tomato sauce for bread dipping, and Saturday I ate an entire vegetarian order for 2 at an ethiopian place, and ALL the injera and some of my brothers lentils. And then made room for chocolate truffles in the hotel room after :X It was a little weird feeling but my stomach was truly calling out for more food.
I’m nuts for nuts and don’t know if I could pick a favorite. I do with Macadamias weren’t so expensive! And I love cashews and almonds.

Aw, sounds like you had an awesome time, both at Guster and at the DC rally! Woohoo!
I LOVE DC–used to visit there often when I dated someone who lived there years ago. I almost moved there, but decided to remain in Boston at that time in my life. I just think it’s a fabulous city, though! Too bad you guys didn’t happen upon the Jolt ‘n Bolt cafe (I believe it’s in Adams-Morgan), as it’s a great little place with yummy treats and awesome coffee, chai, and other teas.
I love the photos!! You guys are too cute. And your food looks delish!

Sounds like you guys had a nice time :) D.C. can be a strange place. I lived there for a year between undergrad and med school and worked for a non-profit group. For me, it’s a better place to visit than live (I couldn’t find good produce anywhere?!?)

    Favorite nut: cashews. Yum :)

I’d say you definitely have more of a glow in the most recent photo! :)

Beef and broccoli is a fave of mine, as well. I think it’s something about the sauce….
