This week’s intention I am stealing from a favorite teacher (her intentions come straight from the Yoga Sutras): it is “Atha Yoga Nushasanam” – which can be translated as:
- Yoga is now.
- Now begins our yoga.
- All around us, now, is yoga.
It’s a reminder to stay present. You can practice yoga anytime, anywhere. Though it’s easy to go about life mindlessly clinging to old habits, remember to check in and come back to the moment. Not sinking into the past, nor daydreaming of the future – being here and now, and embracing it.
Last week’s intention was to be humble.
Food Intention – Salads!
One thing I enjoyed in the moment this week (actually a few times – this is a new favorite) was the Santa Anna Salad at Lime Jungle here in Hell’s Kitchen. The salad has grilled chicken, bacon, corn, beans, tomatoes, and carrots. Those scrumptious toppings come on top of mesclun greens with a side of chipotle-honey lime dressing. I have gotten this every single time I’ve been to Lime Jungle.
Today Bobby and I had off, which was great. We tend to spend the weekends running around and never end up doing weekend-y things, but today was different. We wandered over to Rockefeller Center for lunch, then windowshopped, wandered up to Central Park, then across to Time Warner Center (the big building at Columbus Circle with the Whole Foods in the bottom), and finally home.
Saturday’s yoga session was perfect; Rob and Bobby both loved it. We spent the rest of the day with friends and more wandering, then attended a concert at Terminal 5. I love concerts but I hate standing up – I tend to wander to the back about halfway through and sit down to enjoy the music. Is that odd? I’ve been doing it since I was about 16 years old, so it’s not because I’m getting older.
Sunday we had special errands to do all afternoon (and I think they really really went well) but more on that later. My brother left that night and we ended up playing a board game called 7 Wonders. Loved it – it was so fun!
I think I am going to do more of these personal updates simply for my own records. I love having a journal and I haven’t been diligent with mine lately. It’s nice to know what you were doing when.
