This morning I am sitting in my kitchen sipping some tea (strawberry pu’ehr from Teavana I think it is), waiting for a casserole to come out of the oven (my first ever casserole), and trying to figure out how to blog from my iPad mini. (I ended up moving to my computer – too annoying.)
As you can see from all the crap on the dining table, the house is an utter disaster due to the fact that we are completing our second round of renovations in one year. Last Thanksgiving we started a gut reno of our upstairs (we have a duplex, the first floor and basement of an older NYC coop building). That finished in early January of this year, and now we have decided to do the basement level.
Renovations are hard even when you are not doing the work. All our belongings from the lower level had to be packed up and moved upstairs and now they are living in our living room and bedroom. Yikes. We are lucky that we are able to renovate the space to be exactly what we want it to be, but boy will I be glad when it is over.
Anyway, here is the casserole I’m waiting for (before it went in the oven):
Cheesy enough I hope. Due to renos and other reasons soon to be disclosed, B and I are trying to eat in more/save money. Also because we both just feel better when we are eating home cooked meals.
To make this casserole (recipe to come) I did some research and decided to mix a bunch of random stuff together. This one is not vegetarian but it is both cheap and easy.
The week has been a busy one. Yesterday we joined a new gym – the 92Y May Center. It’s called the “92Y” but it’s not actually a YMCA. The 92Y is actually more of a JCC that has a fantastic fitness center that anyone is allowed to join. So we did. It’s cheaper than what we were paying at Pure Yoga and it has a pool, a sauna, a steam room, and a ton of classes (including yoga). B is really psyched for all the basketball too. It’s also closer than Pure.
After that we grabbed lunch at Just Salad, grocery-shopped, and headed home for an unplanned nap. When we woke up we went to a BBQ. Great people and great food as usual. Our friend has a smoker and the power even went out because it uses so much electricity. I was too full by the time the pork came out but B tried it and said it was the best thing all night. Oops.
Today I might try to go to the 92Y while B is off recording the final vocal tracks for his band’s first CD. I’m so proud of him!
There is also Meet the Breeds which we have been to the last couple years. The animals are cute and it’s a fun outing. I don’t like the idea of purebreds/breeding dogs, but it is kind of cool to see all the animals. If B gets out early enough we will go.
Aside from that all I have planned is a restorative yoga class and cleaning. Last week I was feeling sort of under the weather and to be honest I’m still not 100% so I want to take it easy.
Whew – long post!
