My Quirks – 7 Random Things

I saw this on Erin’s blog and decided to do my own. My first thing is shared by Erin.

1. I am tall too. I am 5’9.75″ (… rounded up to 5’10” usually). But I do love my heels. On my wedding day I wore bare feet. Bobby is 6’1″.

2. I am a sometimes vegetarian. I don’t eat much meat, but I can’t say I am fully vegetarian because I make exceptions every so often for things like Bacon Chocolate.

3. My favorite kind of exercise is yoga. This morning I did a 20 minute yoga session from yogadownload.comGentle Hatha Yoga #3. On Friday I took the day off from work and in the morning I did Crunch Super Slimdown with Ellen Barrett on Netflix. It’s a combination of yoga and pilates. Love! (My yoga recs here.)

4. I have a love-hate relationship with coffee. I love it, but I hate that when I start drinking it every day I get a headache when I wake up until I have my caffeine fix. I suppose this is what they call an addiction. My favorite kind of coffee right now is made by Stumptown Coffee (based in Portland, Oregon). I ordered the coffee online. I grind it with a burr grinder and brew it in a French press.

5. I have a love hate relationship with shopping, too. I love it, but I don’t like to spend $$. My favorite store is Anthropologie and I also like to browse random thrift shops. I used to like Gap, but I’ve found recently that a) I don’t really like the Gap style anymore, b) their clothes seem cheap-ish as of late, and c) I don’t usually wear the stuff I get there (especially when I buy something simply because it’s on sale). I worked at Gap briefly at the end of college and that is how I got hooked.

6. I can never make up my mind about anything. Sometimes I am perfectly happy the way I am and other times I want to travel or go do the Peace Corps. Sometimes I want a kid; sometimes I think I would be happy forever with just me and Bobby and the cats. Sometimes I want to live in Manhattan forever; other times I want to buy a farm in the middle of nowhere and eat eggs from organic chickens that I raise myself. Sometimes I want to blog every day; other times I stop blogging for a week or 2. It’s confusing. But I think everyone feels this way in some way or another.

7. I keep stealing Bobby’s new iPad. He already knows that. He got a book by Ken Jennings (of Jeopardy! fame) – Brainiac – and I cannot put it down. I was never into trivia but now I think it’s kind of cool.

What are your 7 things?

Leave them in the comments or blog about it. You’re all tagged 🙂

P.S. I cleaned up the blog a bit. It’s streamlined and organized better. Click through if you want to take a peek.

Perfect Sunday.

Title inspired by Caronae (I love her blog – a beautiful writer and wonderful woman).

This morning I woke up at 10:10am. Meeting starts at 11. Bobby had said he would go with me this week, so I got him out of bed at 10:30 (late) and we showered and went on our way. We were only 20 minutes late and I enjoyed the silence and the few spoken words for the next 40 minutes.

We left meeting and began to walk. Our promenade followed 15th street over to Union Square, and then into the Trader Joe’s wine store where we got three bottles of three buck chuck. We sauntered down to Souen but it was closed; something wrong with the boiler room. Then I remembered hearing about a fantastic vegetarian lunch place nearby: Quantum Leap.

To celebrate pancake Sunday I ordered the multigrain pancakes with fresh bananas and apples ($8 something). My condiments were butter (healthy animal fat) and minimal syrup. It was a satisfying and satiating meal and some of the best pancakes I have ever had (the best are from my dad’s recipe).

Bobby ordered “The Mexican” ($10 something), which consisted of a vegetarian chicken enchilada thing with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, fake sausage, and eggs. It was fine. I’m not a savory breakfaster.

We walked over to Peanut Butter & Co where I realized I should never work in a place like that unless I want to be obese. (We didn’t get anything.)

We followed 5th avenue all the way home. I got votive candles at Pier 1 and a tea at Starbucks with half and half and all the spices.

Came home. Went back out to Gap and Banana. Got some things on sale. Came home. Made dinner (teriyaki turkey and tofu for bobby; lamb and veggies and various animal fats for me). Drank wine. I drink wine now. It was cabernet.

And now I will either go get frozen yogurt or relax in front of the olympics. I don’t know how much I like the olympics. It seems like everyone in them has serious food or body issues. Did you notice that? I guess it takes a considerable obsession to be as good as those athletes are.

Signing off now. Big week ahead. What did you do this weekend?

Mom’s Matching Green Oat Bran

My mom’s flight finally got in last night around 12:30AM.  It was originally supposed to get in at 9:30PM!  Poor mom.  She went to bed as soon as we got back to our apartment… She’d been up for about 24 hours straight.

I made two batches of green oat bran this morning… Mine was: oat bran, peanut butter, salt & vanilla, and TONS of spinach.  Mom’s was: oat bran (smaller portion), small spoon of peanut butter, small bit of mashed banana, salt & vanilla, and a medium handful of spinach.  She also drizzled a little bit of honey on top.

Mine was much greener than mom’s.  She was so shocked that she really could not taste the spinach.  She tried mine (lots of  spinach) but still said it was really good, even though she could sort of taste it… She’s definitely going for more spinach tomorrow.

Before I made us our green breakfasts, I did 25 minutes of Dave Farmar’s Sun Salutations #2 (yogadownload).  It was… okay.  I like my own flows better.  My flows are a bit more challenging and fun.  I skipped the beginning (child’s pose) and the end (savasana).

Mom and I are off to the mall to get some free Fekkai products (I have some coupons for Sephora) and then I think we’re going to walk around Santana Row and do some shopping.  Anthropologie and Williams Sonoma are definitely on the list.  We might hit up Whole Foods and some of my favorite Asian markets later today too.  I have to make Mom try kabocha soon.  I’m pretty sure she’ll love it (how could you not?).

I think Mom is going to show me how to make seitan today.  She’s awesome like that.

I’m also soaking wheatberries to prep for an experiment.  And to clean out the pantry.  Can’t wait to see how it turns out…

Happy Wednesday!
