I had to keep track of what I ate for a day for something, so I figured – why not take pictures and post a What I Ate Wednesday?
This is 1 scrambled egg with some swiss (Jarlsberg) and sauteed onions. I also had a slice of whole grain toast with butter, a pear (some of it is unpictured – I was snacking as I prepped the plate), some sliced tomato (from Maria’s garden in NJ – Maria is my Grammie’s caretaker), sauteed onions, and sauerkraut (homemade by Maria).
It was really delicious. I have been eating a lot of sauerkraut lately because Maria gave me a big container of it.
I also had an unpictured 1/2 cup of coffee with coconut creamer.
This was from a place called Essen. They have a hot/cold bar so I got a little bit of everything – salad, fish, chicken, cauliflower, and a piece of a turkey wrap.
Unpictured lunch dessert: iced coffee with cream + 1 mini reeses cup.
Afternoon snack: the picture came out terribly, so I will just explain – I had some veggie sides from an organic store a few blocks from my office. A couple squashes (kabocha and acorn) and a small scoop of curry stew.
Dinner: was with Bobby and a friend at Bareburger. (The friend recently got a job at my company and he wanted to take us out.) I got the “California” burger with a farmers quinoa veggie burger. It came in a lettuce wrap with avocado, cheddar, watercress, and tomato (hold the onions). We all shared the rings & fries side with assorted ketchups. (These are not my pictures; I didn’t really want to bust out the camera in public.)
Dessert: was a couple small peaches from my Grammie’s peach tree. Another NJ find.
By the time we got home it was late and B and I both crashed into bed. Another productive Wednesday

Mine is anything with avocado / bacon / cheese!
What did I eat yesterday? Let’s see…
Breakfast was a small bowl of brown rice with a fried egg on top, a baby persimmon, and a little tangerine. Also coffee of course.
Snack – my coworker brought me an apple from the farmers’ market! (Note – I don’t usually eat this much fruit because it makes me break out. It was kind of an accident. I’ve been getting up early since coming back from the trip and that means I get hungry earlier too, and fruit is a good go-to, quick snack for me… as long as I don’t have too much of it.)
Lunch – a big salad from Just Salad:
- romaine and mesclun base (extra lettuce please)
- a hard-boiled egg
- roasted butternut squash and roasted beets
- beans and corn
- broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes
- horseradish-chive dressing
And a macaron (from Japan) for lunch-dessert. I also had a little thing of seaweed on the side (a habit I picked up in Japan) called Mozuku:
It usually comes in a small plastic container like this:
It’s watery and you just peel off the top and slurp/drink it all down. LOVE this. Mozuku is great at breakfast too.
For dinner I met up with Bobby at Buddha BBeeQ which is a little Korean/Asian/Fusion place really close to our apartment. We shared these scallion pancakes to start (each had 1.5). “3 palm-sized pancakes with scallions & zucchini. crispy crust & soft center” (My picture)
I got 2 huge temaki rolls - Chicken Basil Roll - grilled chicken breast, tangy soy glaze, fresh thai basil pesto (peanuts), pickled asian beets, avocado, roasted red bell pepper & grilled zucchini. Really good! Ate them both. Bobby got the K BBeeQ plate with chicken – “a classic grilled korean dish. Our hearty, fruit infused soy based marinade addictive in its classic balance of sweet & savory“. It was just teriyaki chicken, white rice, and a salad. Very delicious as well.

Then we got a kids cup of ice cream (“Trick Oreo Treat”) at Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins to share (yes we share a kiddie size), and then we went home. We both crashed into bed before the clock hit 9pm.

What I Ate Wednesday
I had a nice day of eating Wednesday. This is happening more and more! I used to struggle a lot with how much I ate – I would eat too little, or too much, or overeat at night and feel sick – but lately I have been in a pretty good place with my eating habits. I still have days where I “feel fat” or feel the need to check myself in the mirror (to make sure I haven’t sprouted an extra head? who knows – how much can really change in a day) – but most of the time I am very much OK with myself as I am. I think it just comes with practice, like anything else.
Enough chit-chat, here is what I had:
- Cinnamon walnut bread (from the CSA) toast with butter; 2 slices of salami (Costco, heh); coffee of course; a calcium chew (Adora dark chocolate)
- Turkey and basil hummus wrap from Pret a Manger; a peanut butter cookie someone had at the office
- 1 fun size of whoppers (I think there were like 3 in the package – I need to bring some healthy snacks to the office otherwise I resort to eating whatever they have at the front desk)
- Dinner at Moustache on 103rd and Lexington - Bobby and I shared everything, and he had more of each than I did (he’d had a tiny lunch):
- Spinach and chickpea salad
- Lamb platter (lamb meat balls, with tomato sauce and rice)
- Lamb “pitza” on whole wheat pita
- Homemade yogurt with fruit, pistachios, and honey
- Apple + 2 pieces of beef jerky (no preservatives, Costco) later that night

Spinach & Chickpea salad (had a lemon-y, onion-y, tomato-y dressing)
This was the lamb platter – lamb meatballs, tomato sauce, and a big thing of buttery white rice!
This “pitza”, or pita bread pizza (whole wheat pita) was delicious. Simply a pita with ground lamb. Surprisingly light.
Last but not least – the best part of the meal. Fresh homemade yogurt with 2 fruits – we think they were papaya and mango but we are not sure. Topped with bits of pistachio and honey. Definitely the star of the night.
Before dinner I took a class called “Center Sculpt” at Pure. It was fun (and hard). It was basically a yoga-inspired weights class. My arms were dying by the end. Surprisingly, yesterday (Thursday) my arms weren’t sore, but my legs were a little bit (odd because I didn’t feel like I exhausted them in class). Today (Friday) both arms and legs are killing me! I will definitely be back next time as long as I can get out of work early enough (it’s at 6:15).
I was going to post last night but I got absorbed by this book (Rachel’s Holiday by Marian Keyes):
$0.48 at Strand! I read all 400 pages in about 2 days. The book is about Rachel, a drug addict who does not believe she is a drug addict. It’s about her experiences at a rehab center. As she is there, the story of her life unfolds seamlessly alongside what happens at the center. She’s a very likable protagonist even though she has done some bad things. Obviously I liked it – definitely recommend it. I love Marian Keyes and I’ve read a few of her books in the past.
